A very usual cable used in modern wiring is the fiber optic cable. It is mostly used in cases of long distances where the twisted pair wiring cannot be used and where the requirements in transmission rates are considerably raised. Consider that a fiber optic cable can be used to cover a 5Km distance with the data transmission rates reaching 10 Gbps.
Fiber optics are also used by private companies in local networks, in university backbone networks, in wide area networks, in cable television networks, in applications with high requirements in transmission security, such as the military applications and, finally, in industrial applications where there is high industrial noise to which fiber optics are immune.
Nowadays, fiber optics are the best solution in transmission media and we should add here that the fiber optic cables have the same mechanical features as the coaxial cables, only that they are lighter in weight, smaller in diameter and feature longer distances among the repeaters. They also provide high security, preventing wiretapping.
This is why we too use fiber optics in the closed surveillance systems' wiring, but also in the phone centers.
Our company EXIPNA SISTIMATA L.P., as far as the fiber optics area is concerned, cooperates with the American company General Electric.
